Inspirational reading (probably not what you think)

It’s time to pull out the emergency survival and medicine guides again. Not for real life, thank you very much, but for inspiration. Every so often, I will read through whatever chapters in the guides that feel interesting to me.

When it’s time to write, I often subconsciously pull those things into the story. This has led in some really interesting directions in my books. And since these are sources that I trust, written by reputable people, I always feel confident about what I’m writing.

Nowadays, it would be easy just to stop and ask a chatbot a question. The problem is you still have to research the answer because chatbots lie, and they lie like the best compulsive liar you’ve ever met. So anything they say cannot be taken at face value. The other problem is that this presumes you know what question you want to ask. I use these guides as inspiration and asking a question about an inspiration you haven’t had yet is kind of difficult. :D

Ooh, I should dig out my book about weapons, too. Seems like the right time.
